The highlight of Friday was Ashley and my trip to Coronation market. Escorted by our driver Ricard and his niece Georgia, we trekked downtown after we finished work to the market. It was absolutely amazing... tons of stands everywhere with clothes, a bajillion backpacks (I don't get it, walls of backpacks, no joke), and TONS OF FRESH FRUIT AND VEGGIES! Under tents that were organized in a huge maze-like manner, local Jamaicans were selling everything and anything. Mangos, avocados, sweetsop (called "sugar apples"), yams, carrots, watermelon, pineapples, tomatoes, lemons, naseberries (my new favorite food of all time), lettuce, string beans, and much more. Everything was soo fresh, and HUGE! The pit of our avocado was roughly the size of a tennis ball. The mangoes were at least 2x those in the U.S. And of course, everything was delicious...the taste of tropical amazingness. We were in heaven! Pictures of our overfilled fruit baskets coming soon...
After eating way too much fruit, Ashley and I decided to have date night! We got dressed up and walked down the road to Devon House. This place is basically a huge and gorgeous manor that dates back to the mid-17th century, when Britain captured Jamaica from the Spanish. It is one of the remaining signs of colonial life in Jamaica. Declared a historical monument, Devon House was later modified to be a series of restaurants and shops, with lots of outdoor sitting area under mango trees, etc... yep, quite heavenly.

So Ashley and I had a very yummy seafood dinner at Norma's, seated on the outside terrace. With trees and flowers everywhere, it was definitely a tropical meal! Of course, we followed dinner with the infamous Devon House ice cream (absolutely PHENOMENAL), which cooled us down as we walked around the property.
We spent the rest of the evening on our patio... Definitely a relaxing way to end the week!
